Papua New Guinea, Ramu River area, Wokam Village, early to mid 20th century CE. A small hand-carved wooden standing figure. The figure has an enormous head crest, a human-like bipedal body, and a long, hooked nose rather like an elephant's trunk. These figures, with their elongated bodies and hooked noses, are made to represent the ancestors, who have become half human, half sea eagle. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.2" W x 12.5" H (5.6 cm x 31.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago, IL, acquired prior to 1970.
