Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden food hook bearing a stylized human face along the top, an openwork midsection, and an abstract face with a pair of rising prongs used for suspending food off the ground. The eyes of one face are inlaid with cowrie snail shells, and several areas are adorned with red pigment. Size: 2.25" L x 4.4" W x 23.8" H (5.7 cm x 11.2 cm x 60.5 cm)
