Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Veraguas, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. Impressive enough to be worn by a chief or shaman, a large high karat (tested 24 kt) gold pendant cast via the lost wax process with an open back, depicting a proud shaman figure highly decorated with a curled horn headdress, large round ear ornaments, and a band around his waist, and holding a pair of large staffs or ritualistic implements. Staring ahead with an impassioned expression, his visage comprised of bulging eyes, a surprisingly naturalistic nose, and pursed lips. The attention to detail is impressive: stylized hands with delineated finger, each foot with nine (yes nine) toes, his genitalia and overall physiognomy. Suspension loops behind the shoulders. A large example weighing 59.2 grams. Size: 2.625" W x 2.625" H (6.7 cm x 6.7 cm)
