Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, Chiriqui, ca. 900 to 1200 CE. A hand-built spider-legged tripod vessel or chocolate pot. The vessel possesses a charming, round-bottomed body with a wide, flaring rim, supported by three long legs that bow inward at their centers. Each has perched on its outward facing side a lizard, its body elongated and its legs curled inward at its sides. The closed legs are an unusual style - most vessels of this form have open legs with rattles inside. This style of jar is sometimes referred to as a "cocoa cup" as it may have been used to hold the traditional drink. Size: 4.75" W x 5.2" H (12.1 cm x 13.2 cm)
