Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, Parita, ca. 500 to 1200 CE. A petite pedestal plate with a warm buff slip and overpainted in red and black with abstract serpentine eels. The underside of the foot has shallow holes bored into the surface, possibly vent holes or serving some ritualistic purpose that is unknown. Gran Cocle refers to a cultural region in pre-Columbian Panama, known for its archaeological significance, particularly in the central part of the country. It encompasses several cultures and sites that were prominent between 500 CE and 1520 CE, and Parita is located in the central part of Panama, similar to other Gran Cocle sites, and known for the use of black, red, and buff and the portrayal of S-shaped creatures that are often an amalgamation of eels and other animals! Our shippers of choice are DHL for International shipments and UPS for domestic shipments, but we are able to ship via other carriers at the buyer's expense as deemed necessary or by request.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
