Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. A broad pottery Parita style dish of a shallow form resting on a short ring foot. The surface is slipped in an orange hue with a creamy white and black overpainted on the basin. Gran Cocle refers to a cultural region in pre-Columbian Panama, known for its archaeological significance, particularly in the central part of the country. It encompasses several cultures and sites that were prominent between 500 CE and 1520 CE, and Parita is located in the central part of Panama, similar to other Gran Cocle sites, and known for the use of black, red, and buff.   • Condition: Repaired and restored, with 2 pieces reattached with infill and overpainting along break lines. Repair is nearly indiscernible on the painted side. Some chips and abrasions to the rim. Nice preservation to motif.
