Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 600 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl with a white-ground basin decorated with black curvilinear motifs and ringed with a red rim. Inside of the four-petaled interior motif is the image of a petite, red-painted hand or animal paw, perhaps significant in a ceremonial context. Size: 10.25" Diameter x 2.75" H (26 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 331. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
