Description:

Near East, Palmyra, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 3rd century CE. A graceful pottery head with huge eyes - a symbol of divinity or wisdom that is characteristic of Palmyrene figures. Crowned by a coiled coiffure, the ancient visage features a straight nose, gently parted lips, and a pair of lengthy ears. Terracotta figures are rarely found in Palmyra, so this figure may be result of the Classical influence of Rome, where pottery votive figures were quite common. Size: 2" W x 2.5" H (5.1 cm x 6.4 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
