Near East, Palmyra, Roman period, ca. 2nd century CE. A finely carved limestone head of a older man with a receding hairline - though thick wavy locks of hair run from his hairline to his neck, a full beard and mustache, and a distinguished visage presenting almond-shaped eyes with delineated lids, irises, and pupils, stylized plaited brows, an aquiline nose (with loss as shown), bow-shaped lips, naturalistic ears, incised furrows to represent a knitted brow as well as lines across his forehead to indicate age and deep thought. A special example from Palmyra! Size: 7" W x 8" H (17.8 cm x 20.3 cm); 13" H (33 cm) on included custom stand.
