Description:

Rome, ca. 100 to 400 CE. This is a pair of pottery plaques showing small pieces of Roman artwork. The first, made from reddish clay, is a low relief carving of a naked youth shown from behind who appears to be playing some kind of musical instrument or raising something large to its head. The second, made from a whiter clay, is high relief and shows a female figure in a long skirt holding a winged cherub; the face of the cherub has had small holes drilled into it presumably after its original carving. Size: 4.9" L x 1.9" W (12.4 cm x 4.8 cm).
