British, World War II, ca. 1941 & 1942 CE. This trench art shell is made from 25 pound Mark II shell casings, which were the most common British ordnance during the war. The shells were manufactured from 1940 on; one of these pieces of trench art is from 1941 and the other is from 1942. Both are decorated with detailed, curvaceous flower and leaf designs and are indented around their lower thirds. They are a very complementary pair! Size: Both are 11"H x 4" at widest diameter. Provenance: Ex-private Colorado Springs, CO collection.
