Description:

Northern/Eastern Europe, Baltic Vikings/Viking Rus, ca. 12th century CE. A fabulous pair of cast white bronze pennanular brooches (fibulae) of the style known as Mordvinian, with granulated surfaces. This style incorporates the penannanular style and enlarges the terminals, expanding them into long, isosceles triangle plates with their second longest faces lying against each other. Each has a pin wrapped around its ring. One has loops projecting from its sides at regular intervals, made originally to attach decorative chains which would have had dangling beads at their ends. Size: 1.95" W x 2.7" H (5 cm x 6.9 cm)
