Syria, Roman rule, Antioch mint, Ca 244 to 250 CE. Fine pair of silver tetradrachms minted at Antioch, during Roman rule. First, Philip I, minted between 244 and 249 CE. Laureate, draped cuirassed bust, small pellet under bust, reverse eagle standing, wings raised, holding wreath in beak, ANTIOXIA SC. Next, Philips successor, Trajan Decius, bust also draped, and cuirassed, four pellets below, eagle standng on palm, holding wreath in beak, SC below. Philip I weighs 12.2 grams, 27mm D. Trajan Decius 14.0 grams, 27mm.

Provenance: Ex-European collection acquired on French art market.
