Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A fine pair of leaded bronze rings: one with a lapis lazuli intaglio inlay and the other with a leaded bronze embellishment. The first displays a slender band that widens to an ovoid intaglio of vibrant blue lapis lazuli featuring the incised image of an aquila, the imperial eagle of Ancient Rome and symbol of the Roman legion. Alternatively, the second ring exhibits a thick band that narrows briefly and then slightly widens to a raised leaded bronze circle bearing an indecipherable image, possibly of a face in profile. Size (of largest): 0.875" W (2.2 cm); Ring size (lapis): 7.25; Ring size (leaded bronze embellishment): 1.75
