Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant pair of 83.37% gold hoop earrings (equivalent to just under 20K), each one comprised of a classic form loop that resolve with a tightly coiled terminus and a hook and loop closure. The Romans invented the "hoop earring", which developed around 300 BCE. Though the original closures have frozen over the ages, these earrings are now wearable, as they have been fitted with modern 14K gold plated sterling silver ear wires. Weight of the pair: 1.5 grams Size: both hoops are ~ .75" in diameter (1.9 cm); earwires suspend hoops .5" (1.3 cm)
