Europe, Portugal, Estremoz Alto Alentejo, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of painted ceramic figurines from Portugal. First, a standing male with his feet apart on green base painted with red and white dots, wearing a black brimmed hat, a brown suit, and a striped blue, black and red blanket over his shoulder - holding a basket on his right arm. The second depicts a female laundress with a wide-brimmed black hat, a blue dress with black shawl adorned with red and white trim. She bends over a wash tub, wringing out a red garment. She too is attached to a base, this one painted green with red and white dots. Size: Larger measures 6.75" H (17.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-Morgan Collection, Santa Monica, CA.
