Description:

Northern Peru, Ca 200 to 500 CE. A large pair of matching ear decorations, of hand-hammered gold sheet with impressed image of Ai Apec with toothy grin and series of four trapezoidal dangles at the bottom of each earring. Note the interesting mix of gold and copper decoration - not tumbaga in the clearest sense of the word - but rather a very unique and rare combination of metals to create a multi-dimensional/multi-color effect. Custom stand. Each earring measures 3-1/2" W x 4"H, 30.6 grams in total gold weight. Provenance: Ex-Knox Artifacts, Scottsdale, AZ, ex private NYC collection, acquired before 1970. The starting price is the lowest price at which the piece can sell.

  • Condition: Small tears, but still quite excellent
