Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Chile, Mapuche people, ca. 1500 CE. A wonderful pair of hand-carved stone pipes boasting natural hues of ash gray and taupe. The larger pipe presents a triangular form with a circular, raised bowl rim and a tapered lip. Alternatively, the other pipe exhibits an elongated cuboid body with a narrow, tubular stem, and a towering, cylindrical chamber. Pipe forms like these were favored for ritualistic tobacco smoking and used as symbolic gifts exchanged between different cultural groups throughout ancient Chile and Argentina. Size (of largest): 3.4" L x 1.5" W x 1.5" H (8.6 cm x 3.8 cm x 3.8 cm)
