Islamic, late Fatimid period, ca. 12th century CE. An exceedingly fine pair of 90% gold (equivalent to 20K+) and pearl earrings, each one presenting a hoop with a star-shaped pendant housing a round pearl. Further embellishing the forms is extensive granulation, the granules of various sizes and arrangements - triangular compositions adorning the six points of each star, a ring of larger granules - each one further adorned by a rosette of granules at the apex as well as an additional band of granulated rosettes encircling each pearl, these channels meticulously lined with fine granulated raised bands, and even more granules embellishing the lower ends of the hoops! Size of star-shaped ornaments: .75" diameter (1.9 cm); total size of earring (excluding modern findings): 1.5" H (3.8 cm); total weight of both: 15.6 grams; gold quality: 90% gold, equivalent to 20K+
The Fatimids reigned over a vast kingdom spanning from North Africa to the Levant and Hijaz, and as far south as Nubia (present day Sudan). They also controlled valuable gold mines enabling them to create opulent jewelry like these earrings.

Condition:
Earrings are ancient aside from the modern gold French hooks. Each star-shaped ornament has some slight indentations as they are hollow. The loops are also slightly bent for the same reason. The pearls present with only light scratching and deposits on their surfaces. Overall these are in excellent condition and perfectly wearable.
