Description:

Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro Civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. An attractive pair of redware vessels from the ancient Indus Valley. First, the larger vessel presents a sloped shoulder, a tall, tubular neck, and an annular rim, all sitting upon a ring-form base. A thick, ribbon-form handle connects the top of the neck to the shoulder edge, while black-painted, geometric designs adorn the exterior. Alternatively, the more petite vessel displays a narrow base, a wide hip, a slanted shoulder, a gently corseted neck, and a flared rim. Its exterior boasts a horizontal band of 2 fish below a zigzag motif, all in hues of orange, red, black, and blue. Size of largest: 6.4" Diameter x 7.3" H (16.3 cm x 18.5 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to rim and neck of more petite vessel with restoration and repainting over break lines. Both have chipping to rim, as well as expected surface wear with nick and abrasions, commensurate with age. Unevenness to foot of larger, creating slight wobble. Otherwise, both are excellent with great pigments.
