Description:

East Asia, Japan, early 20th century CE. A pair of polychrome vases, cobalt blue glazed porcelain embellished with gilt and polychrome. They are decorated with near-identical motifs of a man and woman looking in each other's direction from different panels. The figures are stylized, with brightly colored clothing and hairstyles that are throwbacks to the traditional clothing of the Edo period - the woman dressed like a geisha and the man in fine robes. Gilt panels and pale yellow, thin, raised lines of paint provide accents. Chrysanthemum motifs are stamped in gilt stamps on the navy blue background. Size: 2.7" W x 4.4" H (6.9 cm x 11.2 cm)
