East Asia, China, Warring States Period, ca. 475 to 221 BCE. A pair of cast-bronze ring knives: the first blade is an example of bronze knife money from the Yan State, its blue-green patina indicative of a higher tin quantity in its alloy; the second knife has a recessed groove running the length of the slender handle, its blade resembling a petite foot, with a smooth, emerald-green patina enveloping most of the exterior. Both knives have perforated ring loops meant for suspending from a belt or purse strap. Size of largest (blue-green patina): 5.25" L (13.3 cm).

Provenance: ex-estate of John Piscopo, San Diego, California, USA. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
