Description:

Roman, Imperial period, Eastern Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pretty pair of flasks, each free-blown from translucent blue-green glass. Larger of the pair, the first has a sloped shoulder and conical body, while the more petite has a spherical body and curved shoulder. Both are surmounted by a long, narrow, neck and flared rim, all enveloped in weathering film with shimmering areas of iridescence. Size of larger: 2.8" Diameter x 4.6" H (7.1 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: private London, United Kingdom collection; ex-old British collection, formed in the 1980s on the London art market

  • Condition: More petite vessel has stable hairline fissure travelling down neck and body and both have light surface wear commensurate with age as shown. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with slight iridescence and light weathering film to surface.
