Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pair of free-blown glass flasks, each featuring a spherical body, a tall neck, and a flared rim. The translucent pale green glass has developed layers of naturally occurring iridescence in silvery and rainbow hues, adding a captivating visual quality to the surfaces. Flasks like these were commonly used to hold oils, scented perfumes, and other substances, often forming part of a wealthy Roman woman's toilette. The transparency of glass, which allowed users to see the contents inside, significantly boosted its appeal, leading to its widespread adoption over traditional pottery jars. By the 1st century CE, glass vessels were not only practical but also symbols of luxury and refinement, with production techniques spreading and evolving throughout the Roman Empire. Size of largest: 2.5" Diameter x 5.8" H (6.4 cm x 14.7 cm)
