Ancient Near East, Eastern Anatolia (modern-day Turkey / Armenia), Bronze Age, possibly Urartu, ca. 9th to 7th century BCE; Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste/Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A pair of anthropomorphic stone effigy figures: a Costa Rican axe god pendant and an Anatolian Bronze Age stone torso. Carved from mottled gray and white stone, the Costa Rican figure is in the form of an axe blade with a round head, a laterally drilled neck that serves as a suspension hole, and sloped shoulders that lead to the expanding body and straight blade edge. Alternatively, the Anatolian piece is carved from caramel-hued stone and presents broad shoulders, a petite head, a tapering coiffure, and a bulbous posterior. Size of larger (axe god): 1.1" W x 2.8" H (2.8 cm x 7.1 cm)
