Description:

**Previously Listed For $100 **

Anatolia, present-day Turkey, ca. 2500 BCE. This is a pair of complementary kilia heads. One is from a more gray quartzite stone, rounder in shape, with a pronouced nose; the other is from a whiter quartzite, elongated and triangular. Kilia are highly stylized female figures made throughout the Mediterranean during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age. They are characterized by bulbous heads, long necks, and flat bodies with wide, flipper-like arms. When first made, the faces would have had painted details like eyes. Archaeologists have interpreted these figures as female and call them "stargazers" because their heads are tilted upwards. Both come with custom stands. Size: 1.5" H (3.8 cm)
