Northwestern United States, Alaska, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A pair of "billiken" good luck figures, likely made by Native Alaskan artists, and carved from bone, possibly whale or walrus. Both have the characteristic teardrop shape with grinning faces, the verso of the largest is marked "E." Billikens were American troll-like dolls, adopted by Inuit carvers the early 20th century as trinkets to sell. Size of larger: 3.5" L x 1.5" W (8.9 cm x 3.8 cm)
