Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. An endearing pair of high quality, solid silver (85% to 92% silver) monkeys presenting expressive visages, animated poses, and adorable curled tails. Interestingly, most solid cast ancient Andean figurines are Inca; it is quite rare to find examples that are not Inca. Furthermore, the iconography is delightful. Monkeys have always fascinated humankind, with their zany antics that seem to mirror and, at times, parody humans. Understanding simian creatures as mimics of human culture, most ancients of the Americas regarded the monkey as a mediary between man and the supernatural. Size: 1.375" L x .875" H (3.5 cm x 2.2 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand. Precious metal quality: 85% to 92% silver.
