Description:

First Nations / Native American, Canadian Arctic, Inuit, ca. mid-20th century CE. A lovely pair of fish, skillfully hand-carved from green soapstone. Each animal exhibits a lengthy slender body with a flared tail and petite dorsal, pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins. Both of their pointed heads feature annular eyes and open mouths. A fine pair of examples from Inuit culture! Size (of larger): 8" L x 1" W (20.3 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Littleton, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in 1962; ex-Gladys' Gifts, Barrow, Alaska, USA

  • Condition: One has number inscribed on side and is missing dorsal fin and top of tail fin. Other missing pelvic fins. Both have nicks, chips, and scratches as shown, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice.
