South Asia, India, ca. 20th century CE. A wonderful pair of wooden deer heads, each fit with a set of real deer antlers and hand-painted with abstract designs in black, white, and gold pigments. These heads were likely created to serve as mounts for trophy antlers. Size (both about the same): 19.1" L x 12" W (48.5 cm x 30.5 cm)

Provenance: private Constance McCormick Fearing estate, Montecito, California, USA, acquired before 2004
