Description:

Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of repousse copper elephant plaques, each inlaid with red and green glass accents along their backs. These panels would have probably been hung on a wall near an entrance as protective and lucky symbols. Special elephants that carried wish-granting jewels also symbolized an idealized or semi-divine ruler, known as the Chakravarti. The upper edges and under the legs have suspension loops for mounting. Size: 13" L x 11" W (33 cm x 27.9 cm)
