Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, Guangxu, ca. 1875 to 1908 CE. An elegant pair of porcelain vases glazed in vibrant shades of blue, pink, purple, green, orange, yellow, black, and cream. Each of the gorgeous vessels features a discoid foot, a bulbous body, a sloped shoulder, a narrow, cylindrical neck flanked by two intricately formed handles, and a circular, flared rim that curves gently inwards. Several elaborate registers of vegetal motifs and abstract geometric designs adorn the exterior walls of both vases. The body of each vessel is decorated with ten rectangular floral scenes, five of which each features a female figure with her hair in a bun and wearing a robe, a belt, and a floor-length skirt. Both gorgeous vases are inscribed with six Chinese characters on the underside of their bases that translates, "Guangxu Years of the Great Qing Dynasty". Size (both are the same size): 8.5" in diameter x 17.5" H (21.6 cm x 44.4 cm)
