Description:

South America, Chile, Pampas region, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A stunning matched pair of wood and iron huaso stirrups shaped like boots, a flat sole and a toe that gently curves upwards. The surface are elaborately carved with geometric and spiraling patterns then fitted with iron hardware that encircles the center with an integral suspension loop for securing the leather strap to the saddle. Note that only outer half of the iron arch is inlaid with silvery X shapes, while the interior of the arch is plain, indicating the rider's left and right placement of these stirrups. Size: 8.5" L x 6" W x 7" H (21.6 cm x 15.2 cm x 17.8 cm)

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in the 1960s
