Description:

Western Europe, Rhineland, Germany, ca. 1650 CE. A matched pair of massive hand-forged iron ring knockers with lovely scrolling patterns and cartouche shapes. The knockers hang from an arm ring that attaches to a bolt for mounting on a door. A modern threaded bolt has been welded to end of this area to extend the arm length to fit through a thicker door. These knockers came from twin doors of a Rhineland church and are the work of a skilled Renaissance metalsmith. These hefty knockers are impressive and would certainly make an elegant addition to an entry door. Size: 13" L x 7.5" W (33 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: private Coral Gables, Florida, USA collection, acquired in the 1990s; ex-private Munich, Germany collection
