East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A pair of large pottery tiles with thick gorgeous lattice openwork. Both are rectangular with matching symmetrical faces and sit on a flat base. The lattice is comprised of deep squares with interior curving lines, that surround the central dragon, head in profile, with a long tongue curving outward. Such decorative tiles were created to adorn garden pathways or courtyard settings, often with floral scrolling patterns to emulate vines and painted with calming green or while colors. Size: 10.25" L x 2.25" W x 11.125" H (26 cm x 5.7 cm x 28.3 cm)
