Description:

Asian. East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A pair of mold-made tomb attendants (mingqi) with extensive costumes, painted, individualized faces, and accessories, each standing on a pedestal. Both wear similar clothing: green robes with dark blue tunics with white collars over them, and a pointed red cap with wide, raised black brim. One holds a mirror with a red, shell-design back; the other holds a long, hanging yellow item on a loop - maybe an instrument like a musical saw. Hundreds of pottery figures like these were placed into tombs during the Ming period. These objects appeal to us because they are a window to the past, showing us the clothing styles and artistic activities of the past. Size of one (both are very similar): 3" L x 3.7" W x 11" H (7.6 cm x 9.4 cm x 27.9 cm)
