Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE (for moon and stars); Near East, Sassanian Empire, ca. 500 CE (for animal). A pair of intaglios removed from rings. The first is a white calcite stone with a gorgeous dark surface on one side that has been carved into to reveal the milky white surface underneath in a motif of five stars around a crescent moon. The second is dark glass, with a relief image of what appears to be a lion. Both could easily be put into a modern setting. Size of largest (moon and stars): 0.45" W x 0.6" H (1.1 cm x 1.5 cm)
