England, ca. 1850 to 1860 CE. Pair of horn and steel fleams. Each fleam is made from horn with multiple steel cutting blades of varying sizes. Fleams were used for bloodletting and it was believes that bleeding eliminated the bad blood from individuals who were either injured or sick hastening their recovery. Largest fleam made by "Moore" of Tichborne St, May Market, the other by "G. Gregory." Size: first measures 3-7/8"L; second measures 3"L. Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA.
