Description:

Otto Bierhals (German-American, 1879-1944). Woodstock Landscape - oil on canvas board, n.d. Signed by the artist at lower left. A picturesque view of Woodstock, New York by Otto Bierhals, a member of the Woodstock Art Colony for more than twenty seasons. At the center of the composition, river waters cascade in dramatic fashion between craggy rock formations with lush trees bearing canopies of autumnal red and gold hues as well as verdant foliage flanking the river bank. Bierhals' composition invites the viewer to follow the river as it zigs and zags toward sunlit rolling hills in the distance with bright azure skies above. The work is executed with Bierhals' signature command of the palette knife resulting in beautiful impasto passages throughout. A stunning painting by one of the historic Woodstock Art Colony's leading landscapists mounted in an attractive custom wood frame. Size: 16" L x 20" W (40.6 cm x 50.8 cm)
