Description:

Central Asia, India, ca. 19th century CE. An ornate brass box, standing on four low feet, with a heavy lock and two large hinges on the opposite side. The lid features a seated peacock with a large, hemispherical loop on its back that allows you to lift it easily. The peacock and lid are wonderfully decorated with patterns of dots, diamonds, lines, and squares in low relief on their surfaces. The peacock is one of the vahanas, or sacred mounts, of the Hindu god Kartikeya. Size: 4.55" L x 6.55" W x 6.8" H (11.6 cm x 16.6 cm x 17.3 cm)
