Description:

Western Europe, France, ca. mid-19th century CE. A beautiful percussion pistol with a stock carved from a single piece of dark brown wood. The cylindrical barrel is secured to the forestock with a brass astragal bearing arms screwed to the sides, and a hammer rests above the percussion firing pin. The iron trigger rests within a brass trigger guard and protrudes beneath the curved handle which is lined with a brass butt place. A slender receptacle within the forestock beneath the barrel once held a ram rod. Size: 14.2" L x 6.125" H (36.1 cm x 15.6 cm); (bore): 0.6" W (1.5 cm)

  • Condition: Bottom of back stock repaired with chips along break line and brass fittings holding it in place. Lock plate is not original to the stock. Abrasions to barrel, trigger guard, and stock, with hammer sticking when cocked. Nice patina throughout. Hammer does not fall when trigger is pulled. Pistol has not been tested for firing functionality.
