Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A hand-built pottery head fragment from a larger figure, perhaps a female "fertility" idol. Her long hair is swept back with a headbandm, the strands incised down her neck. The broad face with pursed lips and jowly cheeks are reminiscent of the famous Olmec colossal heads. Size: 3" L x 2" W (7.6 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: private Healy collection, Studio City, California, USA, acquired 1995 to 2015; ex-private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection
