Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1000 to 400 BCE. A petite anthropomorphic kneeling figure carved from a bronze-hued stone with dark inclusions. The figure rests upon bent knees below a delineated waist line, and two exaggerated hands meet at the apex of its protruding chest. A small, grooved reservoir rests just above the hands, as if the figure is holding a small bowl, perhaps for holding small offerings or miniscule amounts of hallucinogenic substances. A blocky head displays full lips and puffy eyes, and the top gently tapers to a rounded crest. A beautiful figure from ancient Meso-America! Size: 2.25" H (5.7 cm).
