Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, late Olmec to Proto Maya culture, ca. 550 to 300 BCE. A fascinating pottery rattle in the form of a seated female figure presenting distinctive proto-Maya and Olmecoid characteristics of ovoid eyes with drilled pupils, a sizable, round head with a vertical indentation at the center, a partially open mouth, and flared nostrils. A sizeable, beaded necklace lays across her clavicle just above her petite breasts, while an incised headband crowns her cranium. Five drill holes are featured on her verso, allowing for balls of clay on the interior to produce a delightful rattling sound when shaken. Size: 4.1" W x 4.4" H (10.4 cm x 11.2 cm)
