Pre-Columbian, Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 10th to 6th century BCE. An evocative ceramic figure of a woman, shown seated, with her legs crossed and her arms resting against her thighs. The woman's hair is dramatically styled, with a bun on one side of the head and a long plait that hangs down one shoulder. She is nude, and has a lively facial expression that suggests joy. Size: 3.45" W x 5.5" H (8.8 cm x 14 cm); 6.25" H (15.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
