Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A remarkable pottery head in the midst of a shamanic transformation into a jaguar. Boasting a characteristic elongated form, the ancient visage displays slanted feline eyes and fleshy lips that down turn at the corners as though about to grow sharp fangs while the upper lip seemingly fuses with the nose beginning to create a snout. A fabulous depiction of spiritual metamorphosis! Size: 1.3" W x 1.9" H (3.3 cm x 4.8 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
