Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A hand-carved jade pendant depicting an abstract avian head with a stocky beak and a plateaued forehead. Incised grooves constituting the mouth and eyebrow are filled in with soft red cinnabar embellishments, and the biconically drilled suspension hole doubles as the 'eye' of the bird. Size: 1.125" L x 0.75" W (2.9 cm x 1.9 cm).
