Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec culture, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A delightful pottery figure of a nude female presenting typical Olmec characteristics and a bulbous, pregnant belly indicating she was perhaps intended as a fertility figurine. The squat figure sits with one arm beneath her pendulous breast and the other held to her mouth as she gazes forth in a trancelike manner - eyes widened, nostrils flared, and mouth agape - all suggestive spiritual transformation. Size: 2.5" W x 2.6" H (6.4 cm x 6.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Marc Amiguet Schmitt estate, Amiguet's Ancient Art, Evansville, Indiana, USA, acquired prior to January 1, 2010
