Japan, ca. 1980 CE. A board game - Checkers - with a theme called "Chagu Chagu", manufactured by San-Sui in Japan. "Chagu Chagu" is the sound that donut-shaped bells hung to protect horses from wolves make as the horse walks, a noise that the Japanese Ministry of the Environment has identified as one worthy of protection. This sound comes from the Tohuku region, which is noted for its horses above all others in Japan. The game consists of a checkers board and 24 carved wood pieces, 12 predominantly red and 12 predominantly black, along with a rules card (in English). The box cover is also cutely decorated with a repeated prancing horse motif. Size: 6.35" L x 12.75" W x 1" H (16.1 cm x 32.4 cm x 2.5 cm)
