Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Old Babylonian period, ca. early 2nd millennium BCE. A finely preserved clay tablet of a rectangular form with gently rounded peripheries, relatively flat top and bottom surfaces, and lightly protruding corners. A total of 23 lines of cuneiform text are inscribed across the faces, peripheries, top, and bottom and are formed by pressing a sharpened reed or stick into the still-wet clay just prior to being placed inside a kiln. Cuneiform tablets like this example give us a glimpse into the what those in the past held important or what messages they wished to communicate. While not fully translated, this tablet described a letter to an individual named Munawirum from an individual named Etel-pi-Nabium. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.
